DI Thomas Ridpath was on the up in the Manchester CID: a promising detective who captured a notorious serial killer. But ten years later he’s recovering from a serious illness and on the brink of being forced out of the police. Then the murders began, in an uncanny echo of his first case.
As the death count grows, old records, and bodies, go missing. Caught in a turf war between the police and the coroner’s office, Ridpath is in a race against time. A race to save his career, his marriage, and innocent lives.
When a detective disappears everything is on the line. Can Ridpath save his colleague?
A nail-biting crime thriller, perfect for fans of Mark Billingham, Peter James and D. S. Butler.
The author’s storytelling shines through this book, it’s engaging and interesting. The attention to detail and development of characters made the narrative a pleasure to read, pulling me into the world of DI Ridpath.
One of the standout aspects of Where the Truth Lies is Lee’s knack for creating a believable story. The descriptions of settings, and the characters’ emotions, health and human frailty, painted a strong picture. The balance between plot progression and character growth was well written as the revelations about the characters’ pasts intertwined with the unfolding mystery. This author knows his stuff and has researched police procedurals well.
The culmination of the plot was good. A book for anyone who enjoys a compelling narrative filled with rich characters, and atmospheric storytelling.
