Knowing herself to be dying, Adler confesses to Charlotte things that have long been kept from her, telling her to find and read her diary. A distressed Lucca Sapori tells his daughter to read his as well. And by the way, Lucca Sapori is not his real name. In fact, she may have heard of him—he is actually the world-famous detective, Sherlock Holmes.

Best Book Editors Review

This is an elegant and captivating story, taking us into the world of Sherlock Holmes through the narrative of Charlotte Sapori a young woman on the cusp of becoming a doctor.

The writing is strong and accomplished, balancing evocative prose with an engaging narrative that unravels deep and well-kept family secrets. From Holmes to the charming and renowned Irene Adler every character has the complexity readers would expect from this legendary homage. Charley’s voice adds a fresh perspective to the Sherlock Holmes legacy. Her emotional quest for answers through story-revealing journals brings life to the book

This novel would be a perfect candidate for a comparative paper alongside Arthur Conan Doyle’s original works. Song for Someone builds on the Holmes books with insight into his personal life, particularly through his relationships. It offers rich material for academic analysis. The contrast between Holmes’ cold persona and the warmth of family life creates fascinating layers of complexity. The writing is sublime, the description and tone beautiful and the characters vivid and real.

I’d ask if KD Sherrinford could be Conan Doyle incarnate if not for the more gentle, and modern style. I prefer this to any of the books by the great author, and very much look forward to the next one in the series. Beautiful and captivating, I loved it. Recommended.

I have been a fan of Sherlock Holmes for as long as I can remember and have a special place for him in my heart, so am always slightly concerned when I see him appear outside the confinds of Doyle I needed not have worried this is a fantastic read. With her mother’s death, it is revealed to her that her father is indeed the legendary and celebrated detective Sherlock Holmes. As she begins to read the diaries of both her mother and father a fantastic tale of of heartbreak, betrayal, secrets and intrigue are laid bare, but over all this a story of the love of two people and the perseverance and tenacity of two people destined to be together despite the dangers that conspire against them.
The Victorian era literally seems to jump off the page with descriptions that leave you believing you have just visited. The prose is by turns lyrical and magical. The plot is sharp and crisp with more than a touch of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle about it. Irene Adler is captivating and strong both a woman of the times and also far ahead. Her story from Scandal in Bohemia is expanded and given life in the most beautiful of ways. All in all this is a fantastic read and I look forward to continuing the series, the game is as they say afoot!

This is the first book I have read by this author, and I can honestly say I loved every page.

The story grabs you from the moment you begin reading the first paragraph, it is then you’ll quickly realise that this is is not your typical crime novel. The genius of Sherlock Holmes meets the celebrated opera singer, Irene Adler. It is a story of danger, intrigue, deception, denial, and a secret longing, but above all it is an engrossing love affair to rival the most ardent of stories told through history.

Beautifully written in a dialogue period-specific was an absolute joy to read. The well-defined characters, coupled with the visual imagery, added to the authenticity of the period.
Loved it. A beautiful, emotional story that tugged at my heartstrings.
Highly recommended.
